Safety:Recycling

Motorola is a strong proponent and supporter of global environmental sustainability and recycling programs. In partnership with our carriers, customers, retailers and recyclers and on our own, we operate takeback programs across the globe.
Mobile phonesThe success of our mobile phone reuse and recycling program depends on consumer participation. We work to increase the number of people who recycle their mobile phones and accessories by:
Enclosing prepaid return envelopes in packaging boxes
Providing prepaid postage labels on our web site — available in Austria, Belgium, Estonia, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Encouraging recycling through charity take-back programs
Holding electronics collection events at our facilities for employees and local communities
Offering incentives periodically
Participating with governments and other companies in take-back events and promotions
Locating highly visible collection containers in our service centers
We accept any mobile phone or accessory — not just Motorola products.
Presently, countries where Motorola runs or participates in takeback schemes represent more than 90 percent of our global mobile phone unit sales — and we expect that number to continue to grow. For more details on recycling initiatives for Motorola mobile phones or other products around the world, please select a location:

Environment, Health & Safety Manual

The Environment, Health & Safety Manual is undergoing a major review (background to the review). During a transition period in 2006-2008, two EHS Manuals existed: the pre-existing EHS Manual and the EHS Manual - New. As procedures were reviewed, they were progressively removed from the older manual and relocated into the new.
As of September 2008, a critical mass of progress in the review had occurred, and the two manuals were merged back into one document, which is the EHS Manual - New at http://www.unimelb.edu.au/ehsm-new/.
Because the new manual has a different structure , procedures that used to be located in the older manual will now have a different procedure number and location.
How to find what you need
To find a specific procedure from the previous EHS Manual -
Look it up in Locating old EHS Manual procedures in the EHS Manual - New [.pdf].
To browse current EHS Manual procedures -
Go straight to the EHSM - New.

Health Safety & Environment (HSE)

Health, Safety & Environmental issues are a major part of Integrated Dynamics activities as they are an essential part of the oil and gas and other hazardous industries. In fact any work place where people may be harmed, assets compromised and the environment polluted from work activities and operations. ESS Health & Safety Solution™
Businesses who achieve zero work-related injuries can realize several operational benefits including cost reductions, business growth and responsive risk management. Every employer has a social and/or a legal obligation to provide and maintain a safe and healthful workplace for employees. In addition it makes business sense; the cost of a lost workday injury is substantial. For every dollar spent on the direct costs of a worker's injury or illness, much more is spent to cover the hidden costs.
Business Value
Support Business Growth
Smart Sourcing - Many companies review worker safety performance before determining which vendors to commission for outsourced tasks.
Policy Compliance - Organizations have policies which prevent vendors with high Experience Modification Rates from being selected.
Productivity - Companies with excellent worker safety performance have a competitive advantage.
Strengthen Risk Management
Operational Risk – Use hazard assessment techniques to understand health and safety risks within your organization and focus resources to reducing the risks with the highest impact.
Strategic Risk - Greater health and safety information transparency and insight enables your decision makers to select or reject improvement investments based on risk impact and probability relative to potential recurrence.
Compliance Risk - Improve your reputation with investors, community and employees by investing in prevention and regulatory compliance.
Financial Risk - Mitigate your risk of lost revenue by returning to full operations quickly in the event a disruption occurs.

Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety

I. Why the need for this course?
Management of health and safety in the workplace is not a legal and moral obligation; it also makes good business sense. Attention to safety and employee welfare issues can yield valuable returns in improving employee morale, reducing absenteeism and maintaining productivity, while cutting costs arising from accidents and compensations thereof. Health and safety is often regarded as being separate from other workplace issues. As health and safety laws often involve technical issues, laypersons feel that only experts can deal with such matters.
PRIA's learning and experiences of the last two decades, however, defies this myth. We believe most accidents happen because they have not been prevented thus safety is a key issue. This programme titled "Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety" is designed to provide learners with basic information, resources, discussion questions and interactive opportunities that motivate an understanding of Occupational Health and Safety. The methodology and case studies used in the programme are on the one hand tested in the field set up and on the other enriched by PRIA's networking with experts and practitioners.

IThe Environment, Health and Safety News is a newsletter which comes out approximately every eight months. Its purpose is to provide an update on the main events and activities of the Environment, Health and Safety Programme. Health, Safety, Environment
Health, safety and the environment are core values at Bantrel. Nothing is more critical than ensuring our people are safe and our projects are environmentally responsible.
Our health, safety and environmental (HSE) management program is driven by an unwavering commitment to keeping people and sites "100% Safe." We believe every workplace incident is preventable. This core belief is embedded in our corporate culture and integrated into every aspect of Bantrel's operations.

It's the reason why, year after year, Bantrel posts some of the best safety results in the EPC sector:

Since 2005, our lost-time injury rate for employees and contractors has been less than 0.04 injuries per 200,000 person hours worked-significantly better than the industry average.
Our WCB rates have dropped by 40% over the past several years.
Employees at our corporate offices have logged more than more than 37 million hours without a lost-time incident.
Workforce Participation
Bantrel employees and contractors are actively involved in all aspects of our HSE management program. Every meeting within Bantrel begins with a safety moment. We support a policy of People Based Safety for our construction crews. This includes our proven behaviour-based safety program, where volunteer employees observe work tasks in progress to positively reinforce "safe" behaviours and to identify and correct "unsafe" behaviours.

Continual Improvement
Audits of Bantrel's HSE performance are conducted at least three times during the life of every project to ensure we meet or exceed regulations as well as our own high standards. In addition, we diligently track and investigate all safety and environmental incidents to determine the need for new work practices, procedures and training. Our audits ensure all needed improvements are implemented correctly and in a timely fashion.

Environmental Leadership
Bantrel is committed to designing environmentally responsible facilities. Our projects are consistently executed with sustainable design and operations methodology. Our environmental excellence is backed by a pro-active, grass-roots steering committee that includes senior management and front-line workers who are dedicated to reducing Bantrel's footprint in the communities we operate. We effectively manage our clients' and our own environmental responsibilities on projects, from start to finish.

  • Be the best you can be, by understanding the power of positive thinking – ‘the Art of Brilliance’

ABOUT THE COURSE

The course recognises that HSE professionals come many different backgrounds but with a common challenge of ‘effecting change’ to improve HSE performance. This four day programme is led by an experienced professional management coach and develops participant’s awareness and knowledge of corporate strategy, organisational change, leadership, personal effectiveness, emotional intelligence, neuro-linguistic programming, quality, customer care, communication, project management and team awareness.

Throughout the course, mini-case studies illustrating best practices are used to bring home the large differences that small changes in personal style and approach can bring.

The programme uses a case study based on a tired ringmaster as a metaphor for extracting extraordinary results from ordinary people. A copy of the associated text book is included in the price of the course.

The course assumes a working knowledge of HSE Management tools and techniques and participants are recommended prior attendance of one of the PetroSkills Applied HSE Management, Health, Safety and/or Environment courses.

Environment, Health & Safety:

Workforce ParticipationBantrel employees and contractors are actively involved in all aspects of our HSE management program.
Continual ImprovementAudits of Bantrel's HSE performance are conducted at least three times during the life of every project to ensure we meet or exceed regulations as well as our own high standards. In addition, we diligently track and investigate all safety and environmental incidents to determine the need for new work practices, procedures and training. Our audits ensure all needed improvements are implemented correctly and in a timely fashion.
Environmental LeadershipBantrel is committed to designing environmentally responsible facilities. Our projects are consistently executed with sustainable design and operations methodology. Our environmental excellence is backed by a pro-active, grass-roots steering committee that includes senior management and front-line workers who are dedicated to reducing Bantrel's footprint in the communities we operate. We effectively manage our clients' and our own environmental responsibilities on projects, from start to

SAFETY, ENVIRONMENT AND INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE POLICY

ECPL gives the highest importance to safe operations, safe work practices, and protection of the environment and the health of its employees in the conduct of its business. In an endeavor to keep it abreast with the World Class Safety Standards, Engro Chemical Pakistan Limited signed an agreement with world renowned DuPont Safety Resources in the year 2003.

A major milestone was adoption of Process Safety Risk Management (PSRM) system. PSRM provide a frame work to manage a hazardous chemical process plant with minimum risk. The system has fourteen elements covering the technology, facilities & personnel management. Similarly Personnel (Behavioral) Safety Management Systems fourteen were also adopted which demand more active involvement of different levels of organization in day to day safety improvement. Compliance of the new system would be the major target for 2006. An external audit would be carried out by DuPont Safety resource consultants to benchmark ECPL against the world class standards. All Manufacturing systems were reviewed and upgraded to incorporate PSRM and PSM requirements including Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policy.

The new Health, Safety, & Environment Policy is more in line with Engro’s endeavor in becoming a world class performer in the field of Health, Safety & Environmental management.

The manufacturing division achieved 11.5 million man-hours with out a lost workday injury to its own employees by year end 2005. This is an all time high record since the start up of the plant in 1968. The previous best record was completion of 3.72 million man-hours without a lost workday injury. The company also completed 14.8 million man-hours without an LWI to its contract manpower.

Emergency handling & fire fighting capability analysis of the Urea plant at Daharki was also carried out using the expertise of DuPont safety resources consultant. A number of recommendations gave been given which will be implemented in 2006.

Zarkhez Plant achieved 0.4 million man hours without a lost work-day injury to an employee over a period of 3 years. In addition, 0.744 million man-hours without a LWI to any employee of our contractors were also achieved.

The non-manufacturing functions also maintained their excellent safety record and particularly creditable is the effort of the marketing sales force that achieved 17.8 million kilometers of safe driving over a period of 25 years without suffering an LWI.

ENVIRONMENT

On the environment front, 100% NEQS compliance was achieved & self reporting to Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) was started in 2005. A comprehensive environmental footprint was developed covering all manufacturing sites and functions of the company. A five-year Environmental Plan has also been developed, to reduce the environmental footprint.

The company is strongly committed to improve its environmental performance which is well reflected in its aggressive investment into environmental projects spending more than MRs. 132 since 1993. The objective of environment management is to meet the regulatory requirements & reduction in the environmental burden. The Company is committed to achieve the highest environmental standards and targeting to become a role model in Pakistan.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH

Occupational Health is one of ECPL’s main focus areas & it is committed to foster the best possible working environment for its employees. A comprehensive, revamped Occupation Health Program is being developed and phase-I was launched in 2005.
